Fiona Dalgetty

Fiddle and Dance Caller

Originally from Nigg in the Highlands of Scotland, Fiona Dalgetty is a musician and arts consultant based in Edinburgh. Fiona studied violin from the age of 11 under local instructor Debbie Ross and regularly attended courses organised by the Gaelic arts group, Fèis Rois. Fiona developed an interest in the Gaelic language through her involvement with Fèis Rois and she went onto study Celtic Studies at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with MA (Hons) in 2005.

After graduating, Fiona spent 18 months working as principal fiddle tutor for Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop. Fiona continues to be in popular demand as an instrumental instructor, regularly teaching for organisations such as the Scots Music Group, Fèisean nan Gàidheal and local authorities.

Fiona is an accomplished performer and, in addition to her work with Òr, she also performs with the Auld Reekie Ceilidh Band and in a duo with Borders accordionist David Nisbet. Fiona has performed as far afield as the USA, China and Eastern Europe and she has been featured on several television programmes including Jamie Oliver’s The Naked Chef, the BBC2 Mòd programme, and STV’s Ceòl na Fìdhle. Fiona was delighted to be invited to perform on Niel Gow’s fiddle at the Royal National Mòd in 2004.

Fiona is passionate about arts education and, in addition to her freelance work as a musician, she currently works as a Cultural Co-ordinator for the City of Edinburgh Council. She also leads on the development of the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin and is a Specialist Advisor in youth music to the Scottish Arts Council.
